Advertisement for post of Research Assistant
Sardar Patel Institute of Economic and Social Research invites application for two post of
Research Assistant for an ICSSR funded project titled “Profiling Metropolitan Cities of India
with respect to access to employment: A synthesis.” The candidate will be paid a monthly
emolument of Rs.37,000/- (Rupees Thirty-Seven thousand only).
Eligibility and qualifications
The candidate should have either a masters with NET/M.Phil. with Net or a Ph.D. the preferred
specializations are geography, economics, Development and or any allied field. In case NET is
not conducted for the specific specialization a master’s with relevant experience may be
considered.
Preferred experience
Should be able to handle large data sets, e.g. NSSO.
Should be able to understand, interpret, write and debug R codes
Should have an understanding of GIS, and run queries in QGIS.
Should have good communication skills
Nature of Duties
The candidate will be assisting the project director in assimilating and collating secondary data
from various NSSO rounds and other available data sets like CMIE, etc. May have to visit
municipal corporations for procuring geo-referenced maps for analysis Assist in running
queries in QGIS for understanding the nature of built area. Assist in compiling research
article(s) and the final report. The candidate may have to attend conferences for presenting
result(s).
Duration of the employment
For the initial period the candidate will be employed for a duration of three months and based
on his/her performance, the contract will be extended for a duration of another three months.
The total tenure is 12 months. In case the performance is not found upto the mark, the individual
will be paid a salary equal to that of a field investigator, i.e. Rs 20,000. (Rupees Twenty
thousand only).
Process of selection:
After the due date i.e., the 27th of May, the bio-data’s will be scrutinized, the short-listed
candidate’s will be informed on the 2nd of June and the interviews of the shortlisted candidates
will be carried-out on the 5th of June 2025.
